February Principal’s Update
Dear Summit Heights Families,
We hope this email finds you well. There is a lot of excitement in the air at our school. Many of our students created Hearts for Healthcare Heroes during the past few weeks. Our school created 100s of Valentine’s greetings for healthcare professionals working in local hospitals, thanking them for their outstanding work in caring for those in need. A huge thanks to our students, staff and Ms. Greco for making this happen.
Our student council (along with Ms. Brock, Ms. Calvieri and Ms. Zivkovic) has organized and is hosting “Friendship Week” this week! The week is full of fun and relationship-building activities! Our fantastic student council have organized these events according to age groups, so activities may vary depending on the age of your child;
- Precut hearts of various sizes and colours for classes to find in a “scavenger hunt”
- A giant heart-shaped bristol board will be delivered to classes on Monday, February 14th for students to draw/write messages of kindness, friendship, appreciation etc. Upon completion, all Big Heart Messages will be displayed in the hall by the gym
- A Friendship Fun Fair on Thursday, February 17th in the gym
- There will be trivia “friendship” related questions announced each morning on the PA with small prizes announced & awarded
In addition, please find several updates below:
Report Cards & Interviews
The term 1 Report cards will be sent home with your child this Wednesday at the end of the school day. Students who are virtually learning in Ms. Samson’s class will have their report card emailed to their parents. If your child is away on Wednesday, your child will receive their report card the next time they are at school.
Regarding parent-teacher interviews this term, only parents of students who are struggling in a subject(s) will be contacted for an interview by the teacher. Parents who request an interview with a teacher will be granted an interview of course. Interviews will be held this week. Please note, all interviews are virtual (Zoom or Google Meet) or via a phone call as per TDSB protocol.
PA Day
This coming Friday, February 18 is a PA Day, our school is essentially closed to students/visitors on this day. Our staff will be hosting parent-teacher virtual interviews during this PA Day.
Family Day
Monday February 21st is Family Day, as such our school is closed on this day – we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable long weekend with quality time spent with their loved ones!
Read-a-thon
Thanks to the work of the SAC committee and Ms. Greco, our school is in the midst of a read-a-thon! Hopefully you have seen your child’s envelope, info page and pledge sheet. Students can raise money for each book they read, or for the number of pages they read and/or the amount of time read! All of the proceeds will go directly to the renovation and rebirth of our computer lab into a multi-media Makerspace! This was discussed a few months ago at the SAC meeting – and our school is excited about this new and meaningful project!
Please encourage your child to participate in this event. There are also prizes for classes and even for individuals!
SAC Bingo night
SAC is hosting a virtual Bingo/games night Monday February 28th! Starting at 7pm, the night is full of fun Bingo, neat trivia, great hosts and some amazing prizes! We hope you can join us on Zoom for Bingo Night! Please send an email to summittrivianight@gmail.com to register for the evening and receive the zoom link.
Grad Photos
EdgeImage will be onsite on the morning of Wednesday, April 13 to take grad photos for our Grade 8 (regular), Grade 6 (gifted) and Senior Kindergarten students. The TDSB is now permitting grad photos to be taken indoors (we will be using our gym). More info will be shared closer to the date.
March Break
Please be reminded that March Break 2022 is March 14 to March 18.
Thank you for reading,
Mr. B. Mah,
