Dear Summit Heights Families,
We hope this update finds you and your family doing well! What a year we’ve had! The staff are happy that school life has continued to look more like it used to before the Covid-19 pandemic. As you know, screening students and staff before entry is no longer a thing, nor is mandatory mask-wearing. Things have felt closer to normal too because cohorts are no longer part of our school life.
Thank you to all our students, parents and staff for making school as positive and successful as possible during these last few challenging years. We started the year with a lot of Covid-19 restrictions, and we persevered, making the best of the situation. It was teamwork and community that helped all of us get through these times.
Once many of the covid restrictions were lifted, our staff and SAC really stepped up and hosted numerous activities, clubs and events.
Over the past few months we’ve had a movie/dance night, track and field teams, ultimate frisbee teams, freezie sales, math competitions, Café Francais, student council assemblies, room 10 evening celebration, Kindergarten/Gr 6 Gifted/Gr 8 Graduation, play day, student vs staff soccer, a Gr 8 Grad trip, primary division trip to the Metro Zoo, EQAO (Grade 3 & 6), new to Gifted Q&A, SAC online auction, school panoramic photo, track and field day, student council soccer week – and many more! We’re looking forward to many repeat and new events next school year!
Please note the following important points:
A heartfelt thank you and farewell to the following staff:
Ms. Vanier (SNA) who is retiring
Ms. Kalimbet (RECE) moving to a new school
Ms. Berberi (long term occasional teacher)
Ms. Calvieri (long term occasional teacher)
Ms. Villella (long term occasional teacher)
Mr. Anthony (lunchroom supervisor)
Last day of school: Thurs. June 30th
Attendance during the last week of school
If your child is not coming to school on any given day, please call our absence line before 9am (416-395-2923, option 1) to report the absence.
Children may only “sign-out” to leave school if a parent/guardian is on site to sign them out. Children in grades 4-8 may sign-out without a parent onsite IF a note from a parent/guardian is sent to the teacher and office in advance.
Term 2 report cards will be sent home at the end of the day on Tues. June 28th. Students who are absent this last week will have their report card sent home via Canada post in July.
New to Kindergarten
Parents whose children are new to Kindergarten will receive an email in early July inviting them to an orientation that will take place the week before school starts, please be on the lookout for that email.
First Day of School/First Day procedures – September 2022
The first day of classes is Wednesday, September 7. We will send out an email (and re-post on our website) first day procedures (such as where students for which grades will meet/enter the school). Students will find out who their classroom teacher (and who their classmates are) on the first day of school.
Yearbooks for 2021-2022 will be available in the fall. We will send yearbooks to the new schools of students who have graduated/left our school. A huge thanks to parents Elise Sieradzki and Alex Donsky for (yet again) this year’s yearbook!!!
While we still have one great week of school left, this is an appropriate time to wish you a fantastic summer. So, on behalf of the entire staff, we sincerely wish you and your family the best summer – one that is restful, enjoyable, memorable, safe and healthy!
Have a great summer, we’ll see you in September!
Mr. B. Mah,
